Every now and then, I get asked: “Do religion, astrology, and tarot complement each other, or are they completely different systems?”
It’s a juicy question.. and one that’s been on my mind for a long time.
Different Languages, Same Human Longing
Religion, astrology, and tarot might look like they live in separate worlds, but at their core, they all serve the same purpose: helping us find meaning, guidance, and connection.
Religion often anchors faith in one truth, one divine authority, and one community. Astrology and tarot, on the other hand, work through symbolism, cycles, and reflection, offering us ways to interpret patterns in ourselves and the world around us.
Neither is “better” or “worse.” They’re simply different languages that point us back to the same human longing: Who am I? Why am I here? How do I move forward?
The Question of “False Idols”
Of course, not everyone sees it this way. For example, in Christianity there’s often the belief that anything outside of God’s word (like astrology or tarot) falls into the category of “false idols.” And I can understand why: religion is meant to protect faith by drawing a clear boundary.
I don’t condemn that perspective, but I don’t personally align with it either. To each their own.
What I’ve noticed, though, is that when we start believing there’s only one absolute “right” or “only path,” we close ourselves off. It limits our ability to think critically or explore wisdom across traditions. Worse, it often breeds division and hostility across religions and belief systems , which feels like the opposite of what Spirituality and Religion is supposed to be about.
How I Personally Integrate Them
For me, spirituality has always been about what helps me live with compassion, clarity, and intention. That’s why I still adopt Guan Yin’s teachings in my meditation practice, her energy of compassion anchors me deeply. At the same time, I use astrology and tarot as tools for reflection, timing, and inner work.
They don’t compete with each other. They just offer me different doorways into meaning.
Many Doorways, One Human Search
At the end of the day, I don’t believe there’s one absolute path. Some people find their truth in religion alone. Others, like me, weave different practices together. And that’s okay.
Spirituality is deeply personal. What matters is not which “doorway” you choose, but how it helps you show up in life: with kindness, awareness, and integrity.
And maybe that’s the bigger picture: whether it’s religion, astrology, tarot, or a blend of them all, they’re simply ways of remembering that we’re all searching for the same thing: connection to something larger than ourselves.
